The Disability Action Group is for disabled residents, carers, and organisations providing services for disabled people. There are a number of district councillors on this group, who support and stand up for the rights of disabled residents and disabled carers within the district of North West Leicestershire.
The group meets every three months at the District Council offices on Whitwick Road, Coalville (6.30pm to 8pm).
Members of the group have been involved in a range of initiatives, including:
- raising awareness of disability equality
- recognising and celebrating The International Day of Disabled persons
- carrying out access audits of council run services, eg, yearly access audits of council run leisure centres
- acting as a consultative group on major planning applications
- lobbying the county council to improve public transport in the district.
We want meetings to be as accessible as possible. If you would like to attend any of the meetings and have any access needs - for example you require papers in large print, require a hearing loop or need help with transport - then contact us beforehand.
