District-wide delivery of waste collection calendars to end
Published: Fri 4 October, 2024
North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) will no longer deliver copies of waste collection calendars to every household from this autumn.
The move comes following approval at the full council meeting in February 2024 and is expected to save the council £15,000 each year in printing and distribution costs.
Instead, people can continue to view and download a waste collection calendar from nwleics.gov.uk/bins
From Monday 2 December residents will be able to find their Christmas and 2025 collection dates by putting their postcode in the ‘My location’ box on the council’s website or by logging in to their council ‘MyAccount’ at nwleics.gov.uk/myaccount
Accessible formats of the calendar, such as a braille version, will be available on request from Monday 2 December by contacting the council.
Paul Sanders, Head of Community Services at NWLDC, said: “We know that waste collections are hugely important to local people, so the decision to no longer deliver printed copies of the waste collection calendar to every household was not taken lightly.
“A number of neighbouring authorities have already shown that this decision will enable us to make significant cost savings as well as help us in reducing our carbon emissions.
“It’s easier than ever to find waste collection dates on our website. From Monday 2 December, residents will also be able to download a digital version of the calendar for 2024-25 which can be viewed on a phone, tablet or computer, or printed at home.”
