Project summary
We seek to create an all-weather, pedestrian friendly path around Ashby's historic Bath Grounds.
It will connect the South Street and Prior Park entrances, taking a sinuous route along the northern boundary, behind the Bowls club and alongside Bullen's Field.
The Bath Grounds provide recreational space for many Ashby residents and are a major thoroughfare to the town centre.
However, many users (particularly the elderly, disabled and parents with pushchairs) are unable to access the park during the winter months and wet periods because of the low lying nature of the ground which can become very boggy.
Our research indicates that improved accessibility will significantly increase community and visitor use. This will boost civic pride in the Bath Grounds, deter anti-social behaviour and contribute to Ashby’s economic vitality by improving our attraction to visitors.
The design incorporates vehicular access to the bowls club and for events traffic onto the park. It will be constructed from Breedon Golden Amber, self binding gravel, a beautiful material used at some of the country's most prestigious stately homes.
This project is a further step towards achieving our vision of a vibrant, well maintained park and recreation ground which Ashby can be truly proud of.
