parkrun is a national initiative which currently stages in excess of 110 weekly, 5km timed runs, completely free of charge to all participants.
parkrun encourages people to get fit through running and in turn creating a friendly social environment held within a park or open space.
Each parkrun is suitable for all ages and abilities and they provide and easy and enjoyable entry in to non-competitive running, whilst also appealing to regular and/or club runners who may wish to use the event as a more intense time trial.
The North West Leicestershire Local Sports Alliance contributed towards the successful launch of Conkers parkrun in Moira.
Andrew Harris Conkers parkrun founder and Event Director said that “We are privileged to have become only the 2nd parkrun in the East Midlands and only the 5th in the entire midlands. Since April 16th 2011 we have engaged with over 70 different running clubs and already have 650 Conkers parkrunners registered”
Regular parkrunner Jono Ashton commented “
The course takes in some fantastic trail paths and waterways within the heart of the national forest and provides an idyllic venue for any outdoor event. To find out more log on to www.parkrun.org.uk/conkers
