We have a number of policies around conservation of the historic and natural environment. You may need to consider these when preparing a planning application.
Historic environment
The historic environment makes an essential contribution to an attractive and thriving district - so its preservation and enhancement is an important role of the planning system. Our Conservation Officer advises our planning officers and residents of North West Leicestershire on all matters relating to the historic environment. Formal protection is provided in a number of ways through the development control process.
A 'heritage asset' is a building, monument, area or landscape that merits consideration in planning decisions, because of its heritage interest. Listed buildings, scheduled monuments, conservation areas and registered parks and gardens are known as 'designated heritage assets', because they are designated under the relevant legislation.
