Emergency Planning

Under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, we have responsibilities as a category one responder for public safety.

To make this happen we work in partnership with all the councils in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. This is called the Resilience Partnership and is to prepare for any sudden emergencies. We work closely with many other other partners, including the police, fire and ambulance services, as well as various volunteer agencies and utility companies,as part of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Local Resilience Forum (now known as LLR Prepared)

We also work closely with the district councils in the counties that join North West Leicestershire .

Under the Civil Contingencies Act, we are required to carry out risk assessments, write emergency plans including business continuity and to keep you aware of any identified risks.

Most emergencies will be reported and responded to by the emergency services (police, fire, ambulance). North West Leicestershire District Council will help the emergency services where it can and will also have a responsibility for recovery from the incident. Leicestershire County Council provides support to the District Council in areas such as transport, highways and social care to name but a few

Some emergencies may mean you will have to leave your home or place of work. This could be for a very short time or it could be for several hours or even days. This can be both upsetting and inconvenient. You can prepare an emergency grab box for your home or workplace. Details for this can be found on the Local Resilience Forum website link below

Local Resilience Forum (known as LLR Prepared)

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Local Resilience Forum brings together all partners with a responsibility for emergency planning including the police, fire service and ambulance.

The forum offers information and advice to residents, visitors and businesses. It also prepares for a joint response to major incidents and emergencies.

The Local Resilience website also provides links to government and non government advice sources for a wide variety of emergencies.
