We are keen to encourage our residents, community groups and businesses to take action to reduce their own carbon emissions
For Residents
If you are thinking about switching to clean energy, why not check out our Solar Together or Energy Switch group buying schemes? Or if you are interested in improving the energy efficiency of your home, try our page with guidance on funding and grants, and eligibility and advice services?
On our Recycling more pages there is a lot of information on about reducing waste and what you can recycle. Did you know that North West Leicestershire District Council, unlike other Leicestershire districts, sells the recycling it collects? We are currently undertaking trials including food waste collection and flexible bag and wrapping trial.
For advice on how to get around by public transport or walking or cycling, check out choose how you move which provides lots of information on how to get about Leicestershire and has a really useful journey planner. If you or your visitors need to charge an electric vehicle, have a look to see where our EV charge points are in our public car parks.
And if you want to have a go at calculating your own carbon footprint, why not try the WWF website for their useful Footprint Calculator. It's very simple and quick to use and may inspire you to think about the choices you make!
For Community Groups
If you are a community group, we recommend taking a look at the Net Zero Toolkit, an online resource developed by the Green Living Leicestershire partnership. Including helpful tips and advice, the toolkit has been designed to help kick-start community action, including guidance on how to identify sources of carbon emissions in their local area, setting clear reduction targets, getting the community involved in supporting initiatives, working with communities and signing up to the Leicestershire Climate and Nature Pact.
For those involved with village halls and community buildings, check out the ACRE net zero design guide which aims to help groups improve the quality and performance of community building by making them more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. It is a simple and practical guide and explains different technology options, sharing practical examples and experiences of halls.
Don't forget we have a number of grant schemes - including our Zero Carbon Grant - why not have a look and see if we can support you with your project?
For Businesses
If you are a business, why not look at the advice and contacts on our business related webpage for sustainability webinars and other support to help build knowledge and reduce your own carbon footprint? Many of the resources and webinars are free.
The Carbon Trust has a number of useful tools available to help with carbon reduction, energy efficiency and net zero.
