The Ashby Canal Association was formed in 1966, born out of concern caused by progressive closure of the northern 8 miles due to mining subsidence. The ACA is now actively promoting their restoration and re-connection to the navigable canal and over recent years the Association’s work-parties have significantly contributed to the voluntary effort of the restoration project.
One and a quarter miles of the Ashby Canal have been restored at Moira. From Moira Furnace a trip boat is available at peak periods, other times by arrangement (Tel 01283 224667). The towing path links Donisthorpe Woodland Park to Conkers, passing through the historic Moira Furnace. The canal route includes Moira Lock and the Bath Yard Basin by Conkers Waterside. Coach parking by arrangement. This isolated stretch of the Ashby Canal will eventually link back up to the existing Ashby Canal. For more information about this restoration please see the Ashby Canal website
Opening times: Canal towing path open 24 hours a day, links into Donisthorpe County Park and Waterside at Conkers
