354 men from the Coalville urban district gave their lives in the First World War. In 1918 the urban district comprised Bardon Hill, Coalville, Donington le Heath, Ellistown, Hugglescote and Whitwick.
2018 marked the centenary of the end of the First World War. In that year the District Council delivered a brochure and touring exhibition, "These names are lamps of sacrifice", exploring how the war was commemorated across the urban district.
The brochure and touring exhibition offered work experience opportunities to students at Stephenson College and North Warwickshire & Hinckley College.
The brochure and touring exhibition formed part of the Memorial Clock Tower Project, which we delivered with the assistance of local partners and funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the War Memorials Trust. We wish to thank our consultants, Heritage First Ltd, for their invaluable assistance.
