Private hire drivers/operators may wish to consider whether displaying the council's private hire vehicle plates portrays the right image to their corporate customers.
The council does have an option to waive the necessity to display private hire vehicle plates and also the private hire driver's badges. This comes from Section 75(3) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.
To request a waiver please write to the Licensing department setting out your reasons and supplying evidence of current corporate contracts.
You may also wish to supply photos of your vehicle.
Each request will be dealt with on case by case basis and the grant of a waiver is not guaranteed. But we are keen to support our licensed drivers/operators in their attempts to secure corporate business.
